On the 13th of September I travelled to Mayo and met my friend Joe in Westport. We rented bicycles and started out on the Greenway Trail, a cycle route that runs along an old railway line from Westport through Newport to Mulranny. The trail leaves the railway line in parts to cut through boreens and rugged landscape.

The weather was perfect for cycling and we stopped off several times to photograph and make some sketches. The vibrancy of the landscape was accentuated by large open spaces of grassy bog, blue sky and impressive cumulous clouds.
We reached the Valley pub on Achill at 8.15pm just in time to pitch the tent and have a well deserved pint of Guinness. The next morning we started back along the trail and stopped off at a few points in Achill, painting Nambruck Lake, the bog in Bunacurry and taking more photos along the trail.
